Recovery, Your Way.

Supporting busy and successful people to regain control over substance use and addiction, while leaving the guilt and shame behind.

As one of the only outpatient facilities in Sydney, our addiction programs and counselling services help you to find empowerment and autonomy in your recovery, and therefore, your life.
About us

With you

Look, we get it! You are frustrated because you have decided to make some changes, like have a week off alcohol or no longer go out from Sunday to Thursday because you see the impact drugs and alcohol are having on your work, relationships and health... however each time you make the decision, it hasn’t worked.

Our overarching philosophy is not on abstinence as we are not a 12-Step based program. Rather, we will show you how to stop the reactionary ‘fighting of fires’ by providing you with a robust plan and strong foundations to manage your drug and alcohol use to reduce the need for apologies, guilt or shame in your life.

The TARA Clinic is one of the only outpatient solutions in Sydney, and we offer an option for everyone. Whether a private one-on-one program is important to you, you find comfort in being part of a group, or having access to an online membership is more your style, then The TARA Clinic has a solution for you.

The Empowered Recovery programs have been specifically designed to provide the most effective chance for success and ongoing recovery. With specific outcomes to achieve upon the completion of each of the three stages, there is a greater potential for predicting outcomes more effectively.
Our Private Individual Programs
The Empowered Recovery program is The TARA Clinic’s original private outpatient recovery program.

Using evidenced based therapies such as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Positive Psychology, the program is broken up into three phases; Action, Resilience and Purpose.

With limited spaces in this individual program, book a call now to secure your place.
The first of three phases from the original Empowered Recovery Individual program, Action is a structured yet flexible 12 week program that works with your schedule.

A major contributing factor to substance abuse are the experience of big emotions or a desire for a release. As such, upon completion of Action you will have learnt and likely mastered many effective stress management tools that may assist with the reduction of substance use.
Phase two of the original Empowered Recovery Individual program, like it's namesake Resilience helps you to build more resilience around substance abuse and addiction related behaviours.

Upon completion of Resilience you will have access to practical tools and strategies to manage things such as cravings, urges and triggers along with a clearer understanding of what addiction is, how it progresses over time and what your early warning signs are. In doing so you are provided with the highest chance of long term success which means you are better equipped to avoid relapse.
Finally, build a life filled with direction, connection and purpose by completing the third phase of the original Empowered Recovery Individual program, Purpose.

By building a strong awareness of your values and goals, you will have the capacity to redefine your identity in a meaningful way while fostering the confidence in your ability to maintain your recovery into the future. Upon completion of Purpose, you will understand the steps to take to maintain recovery and manage any unexpected hiccups along the way.

Our founder

It’s time to take control.

The TARA Clinic (an acronym where TARA stands for Therapeutic Addiction Recovery Assistance) was founded by Tara Hurster, a psychologist who started working within the space of addiction early in her career. Over the years she noticed a major problem with the way that addiction treatment was being managed within the community... because basically, it wasn’t!
