Select Program
In Group Therapy, the process can take one of two forms known as 'Open Groups' or 'Closed Groups' and both have their pro's and con's. Open Groups allow new people to come into the program at any stage whereas a Closed Group means that the same group of people will go through the program together from start to finish.

The Empowered Recovery Groups program is a Closed Group and the next intake starts the week of the 25th March 2020.

The program consists of one 90 minute group session per week which is run from 6pm - 7:30pm and one individual session with your therapist each fortnight at a time that works for you.

To secure your place in the next intake, sign up today as numbers are limited.
Please note that payment is required in full prior to the start of the program and the deposit is non-refundable.
You asked, we answered.
Under Medicare’s Better Access Mental Health Care Plan, when you see a psychologist who is registered with Medicare you may be entitled to claim a rebate for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. Your rebate will be $86.15 per session with a psychologist. When you speak to your local GP you will receive a Mental Health Care Plan and referral letter which you will need to bring to your initial appointment. At the point of payment, you will be provided with an invoice which you can lodge with Medicare to claim the rebate. After you have claimed your 6th rebate, you will be required to see your GP for a Mental Health Care Plan Review and receive another referral letter. This letter must be provided to your therapist before you will be able to claim the further 4 rebates in the calendar year.

For clients who have private health insurance, depending on your level of cover and provider you may be eligible to claim a rebate from them. It is best to speak with someone from your health fund for further information.

The Australian Psychological Society (APS) provides a recommendation for all psychology related investments. The APS's recommended rate for individual psychological treatment for 46-60 minutes is $251.

Please note that payment for your Empowered Recovery program or Individual Consultation session is due on or prior to your initial appointment. We accept standard Visa or Mastercard Debit or Credit Cards payments.

We understand your time is as valuable as ours. As such, your therapist will ensure that your session starts and finishes on time. The TARA Clinic’s cancellation policy states:

Outpatient Programs

In the event that you will be unable to attend a scheduled session, please inform The TARA Clinic by email to a minimum of 24 hours before your scheduled appointment. It is recommended that the appointment be rescheduled for within the same working day, where possible, to ensure continuity of care.

The TARA Clinic reserves the right to cancel treatment in the event that your rescheduling of or missed appointments is negatively impacting on the therapeutic result of your treatment. This will be discussed with you where possible prior to cancelation in order to assist you through any barriers to treatment. Upon cancelation, there will be no refund for any sessions not completed.

Each individual session is 50 minutes in duration. Should you arrive late for your session, you will forfeit some of that time.

Each session is 45-50 minutes duration, should you arrive late to your appointment you will forfeit some of that time.
The clinicians at The TARA Clinic understand that seeking support and treatment can be daunting, however we want to make your first session as comfortable as possible.

In your first session your therapist will focus on listening and asking questions to get to know you and understand what your concerns are, and together you will create a plan that best meets your goals for therapy. During this session your therapist will assess the level of care you need and, if necessary, provide you with any recommended referrals.

Each treatment plan is designed specifically with your individual needs in mind and initially will likely include weekly sessions or a suggestion to attend the Empowered Recovery outpatient programs. The number and frequency of sessions you need will be mutually agreed upon with your therapist and is always open for review. Typically, the weekly sessions would over time progress to fortnightly and then monthly. This step-down approach will be revised regularly to provide you with the opportunity to gain the confidence in your skills over time.

The TARA Clinic's therapists are well versed in other areas of concern such as mental health, relationship issues and work-related stress. Our therapists are able to assess the specific concerns you are experiencing and providing the practical tools to assist you in moving forward.

If the concern you are experiencing is outside our clinician’s scope of expertise, we will ensure that an appropriate referral suggestion is made, and a clinical handover is provided to your chosen clinician. We want to ensure that you are looked after by the best person possible.
The honest answer is that it all depends on how ready you may be for change. Your therapist will be honest with you and work at your pace to guide you towards your goals, challenging and motivating you along the way. By understanding the difference between a lapse and relapse you will begin to see your own success in a more realistic light.

Our mission is to ensure that you will be educated, have access to the correct tools and therapies, as well as a point of contact, to reach your recovery goals.

It is important to understand that your therapist will provide you with the tools and strategies for recovery and it will be up to you to put them into action. We will be here to support you every step of the way though not do the work for you.
Psychologists are bound by strict confidentiality agreements which ensure that your details will not be shared with anyone outside of the therapeutic relationship.

There are limitations to this confidentiality agreement where your psychologist may need to speak to someone about their concerns. Those limitations include:
If the psychologist is concerned for your safety or the safety of someone else
If the psychologist is concerned for the safety of a child/minor or elderly person
If the psychologist is made aware of specific criminal activity that has not been dealt with by the judicial system
In the event of this, the psychologist will make every effort to inform you of their intention to breach confidentiality.
The short answer is no.

Our clinicians will work with you to assist you reaching your own recovery goals. In doing so, you will be provided with information about any risks involved in the substance use patterns you are living with and offer ways to reduce the risks. This is called Harm Minimisation and focusses on reducing the risks to yourself and the community from your substance abuse.

During your treatment, you will learn the difference between substance use, substance abuse and addiction. Usually this will help you to understand more clearly what your recovery goal would look like and how to work towards it.

It is strongly recommended to avoid consuming any substances prior to attending your session to ensure you are able to engage fully in the session as well as ensuring the welfare and safety of yourself and the therapist. The TARA Clinic reserves the right to refuse to provide treatment at any time.
